Nicolas Conway is a Firearms Technologist with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.  He is a lifelong student of history, weapons, warfare and martial arts.

He has explored various styles of martial arts including Aikido, Judo and sport fencing since childhood and, in 1994, started his serious training in the mixed martial arts, which he studied for over 10 years. In 2001, he joined the Ottawa Medieval Sword Guild (OMSG) and was awarded the rank of Scholler in November 2002.  He has served as the Guild's principle instructor for 7 years and has developed several programs based on the works of Fiore dei Liberi, both for the Guild (with OMSG Scholler - now Free Scholler - Chris Penney) and for his own training.

Besides medieval martial arts, Nick also pursues interests in military-style combatives, Kali, Spanish knife and early American Bowie, Long Knife and Tomahawk fighting. He regularly attends seminars in various styles of traditional and modern martial arts, seeking new insights and greater martial understanding.

Nick's desire to concentrate his study on the more practical martial aspects of Fiore's style prompted him to start the Ottawa School of Western Martial Arts in 2009.  His current projects include completing a comprehensive interpretation and expansion of Fiore's work in book format and developing a complementary series of training videos.
